A 36-year-old man, Paul Christian Roque, is facing a parricide complaint after police said he ran over and killed his wife with their gray Toyota Vios at about 5:30 a.m. on September 3 along RN Pelaez Boulevard near San Nicolas Street in Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.
The victim, Ivy Berjame Tingson, 28, was a radiologic technologist at Northeastern Misamis General Hospital in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Her remains were later brought to her hometown in Butuan City.
According to the initial police account, the couple argued before Tingson left and booked an online motorcycle ride. Investigators said Roque followed her and deliberately struck her with the Vios. The impact killed Tingson and critically injured the rider she had hired, Jeric Cantago. The car then hit a parked red Hyundai Eon and a roadside fruit stand, police said.
Roque left the scene, went back to a nearby house, and later surrendered.
Local reports say the Vios was a wedding gift from the wife’s parents last year. Separate claims that Roque had lost a government post after failing two drug tests and had recently left rehab have not been confirmed by police.
Parricide applies when a person is accused of killing a legal spouse. The charge is still at the complaint stage. Motive, intent, and the exact sequence of the crash will be for prosecutors and the court to weigh — not for social-media clips of a wedding album.
