Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) is a government bank used for salaries, scholarships, government payouts, agri loans, and everyday savings. You can now open an account in three ways: fully online through the Mobile Banking App, online first then finish at a branch, or walk in to a branch. As of mid-2026, you can even open an account without a physical ID if you are registered in the National ID system.
This guide is for individuals in the Philippines. Rules for companies, co-ops, and some special products are different.
Who can open an account
For a regular individual peso account, you generally need to be:
- At least 18 years old (parents can open for a child with the child’s birth certificate)
- Able to prove identity (National ID / PhilID is now the easiest)
- Able to give an active mobile number and email
- Willing to declare source of funds and, if you are a U.S. person, complete FATCA forms
Filipino residents usually present one original photo-bearing government ID. Foreign residents typically need a passport plus an Alien Certificate of Registration or a DFA diplomatic ID that shows their status (work, business, student, or non-resident).
Option 1: Open fully online (fastest)
This is Straight-Through Account Opening (STAO) on the LANDBANK Mobile Banking App (MBA). Eligible applicants can get a savings account without going to a branch.
What you need
- Android or iPhone with stable internet
- LANDBANK MBA from Google Play or the App Store
- Active mobile number and email
- One acceptable photo ID or National ID registration for facial biometrics
- A well-lit space for a video selfie
Accepted IDs commonly include: PhilID / National ID, Philippine passport, driver’s license, UMID, SSS ID, PRC ID, GSIS ID, voter’s ID, postal ID, TIN card, OFW ID, and some photo-bearing local IDs. Confirm on the app if your ID is on the current list.
Step-by-step (MBA)
- Download LANDBANK Mobile Banking App.
- On the login screen, tap Open an Account.
- Choose I would like to open a LANDBANK account.
- Select the product (for most first-time users, a peso savings / ATM-type or digital product such as Piso Plus).
- Read and accept the Customer Declaration and Terms and Conditions.
- Create your User ID and password.
- Verify identity:
- National ID / NIDAS path: facial biometric match with PSA records — no physical card required if you are registered.
- ID scan path: scan your PhilID or other accepted ID, enter the ID number, then take the required selfie/video.
- Enter the OTP sent to your phone and confirm your email.
- Answer security questions.
- Fill in personal, financial, and purpose-of-account details, plus FATCA if asked.
- Choose a home branch.
- Review everything and tap Confirm.
If approved, the account can be activated on the same app. You can then transfer money in, pay bills, use InstaPay/PESONet, and (when issued) use an ATM or debit card.
Tip: Opening through MBA STAO is also the path used for LANDBANK’s 2026 “Open, Pay and Win” promo (open via MBA + pay at least ₱100 in bills). Promo period runs through 30 September 2026.
Option 2: Start online, finish at a branch (DOBS)
DOBS (Digital Onboarding System) is LANDBANK’s web form at dobs.landbank.com/DOBS. You encode your data first, then visit a branch with ID and initial deposit to complete opening. This is useful if the product you want is not available as full straight-through opening, or if verification needs a teller.
- Go to DOBS and choose Open An Account.
- Fill out the online application.
- Note your reference details.
- Go to your chosen LANDBANK branch with at least one valid photo ID and the initial deposit for that product.
- Sign the Customer Information Sheet and receive your passbook and/or ATM card, depending on the account.
Some “phygital” branches have a DOBS corner so staff can help you encode on the spot.
Option 3: Walk in to any LANDBANK branch
There are 600+ branches nationwide. Bring:
- One original valid photo-bearing ID (PhilID preferred)
- Two recent ID photos if the branch still uses the manual packet
- Initial deposit in cash
- Proof of address if your ID has no complete address (utility bill, bank/credit-card statement, barangay clearance, or certificate of residency)
- Extra papers only if they apply: child’s birth certificate; notarized SPA if someone else will transact for you; source-of-funds documents if the bank asks
Tell the New Accounts counter which product you want. Staff will encode you (or pull your DOBS record), verify you, accept the deposit, and issue the account documents. Facial verification through NIDAS is also available at branches.
Common account types and opening amounts
Figures below are the widely published retail rates. Always confirm at the branch or in the app, because products and fees change.
| Account | Typical minimum to open | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Savings with ATM access | ₱500 | ₱500 ADB to avoid fall-below fee; about ₱2,000 to earn interest |
| Regular passbook savings | ₱10,000 | Passbook required for deposit/withdrawal |
| Easy Savings Plus | ₱20,000 | Higher, tiered interest |
| OptiSaver | ₱50,000 | Premium tiered rates |
| Piso Plus / some digital accounts | Often ₱0 initial deposit | Built for online opening and inclusion |
| US Dollar savings (individual) | USD 100 | Passbook-style FX savings |
| GoBayani | Digital / remote | Aimed at Filipinos overseas |
Fall-below fees, early-closure fees (often if closed within 30 days), and dormancy fees apply if you leave the account unused or under the required average balance. Deposits are PDIC-insured up to the current PDIC ceiling per depositor.
Opening while you are overseas
Eligible overseas Filipinos can open and manage accounts digitally, including GoBayani, subject to onboarding and compliance checks. Use the LANDBANK MBA (or OFBank MBA where applicable), a Philippine or eligible mobile number, email, and an accepted ID such as a Philippine passport or PhilID. After the account is live, you can send money home through InstaPay, PESONet, or QR.
After the account is open
- Fund it — cash at a branch/CDM, InstaPay from another bank or e-wallet, or payroll credit.
- Keep the MBA login — this is your day-to-day channel for balance, bills, QR, and transfers.
- Enroll in iAccess if you want browser-based internet banking for the same peso accounts.
- Safeguard OTP and PIN. LANDBANK will not ask for your password in a random chat or text.
- Watch the ADB so you do not get a monthly below-minimum charge.
- If you applied for an ATM/Visa debit card and it is not instant-issue, ask the home branch when and where to claim it.
Valid IDs LANDBANK commonly accepts
For Filipino residents, official checklists start with one original valid photo-bearing ID. Typical examples:
PhilID / National ID, passport, driver’s license, PRC ID, GSIS e-card, SSS ID, UMID, voter’s ID, postal ID, TIN card, OFW ID, seaman’s book, senior citizen ID, and other IDs on the bank’s current Annex F list. If the address on the ID is incomplete, bring a supporting address document.
Practical tips
- Use PhilID if you have it. NIDAS facial match is now built into both the app and branches and has already been used for hundreds of thousands of ID-free openings.
- Pick the right product first. A ₱500 ATM savings account is enough for most students and first-time savers. Open a passbook or OptiSaver only if you can keep the higher balance.
- Choose a home branch you can actually visit (card claim, passbook, complaints).
- Government payroll or scholarship? Ask the agency which LANDBANK product they require before you open on your own.
- Names must match the ID. Middle name, suffix, and married name errors delay approval.
